Detailed hydrogeological examination, Stierenberg Spring

The project

Location: Schwarzsee (FR)
Customer: Pfaffeien Municipality
Phases: Preliminary project
Duration: 2016/2017
Construction costs: --

The Stierenberg spring is located in the lower part of the Euschel valley between Schwarzsee and Jaun. In connection with the current water supply projects in the neighbouring Breccaschlund, the Euschel valley and the village of Schwarzsee, the Plaffeien municipality decided to supplement the investigations performed in 1977 in order to check whether the Stierenberg spring could be used to provide drinking water.

Our services

  • Extensive geological mapping work
  • Development of a hydrogeological model taking into account regional tectonics
  • Provisional version of the spring for sampling and monitoring of the filling quantities

Challenges

  • Alpine terrain, which is difficult to access
  • Complex crevice groundwater system
  • Tectonically highly stressed area, various transverse and overthrust areas

Our services in detail

  • Review of municipal, cantonal and university archives
  • Numerous field surveys and geological mapping of the study area
  • Taking regular samples of water, including bulk measurements and chemical analysis of the water samples
  • Local and regional dyeing tests in running water and in fissured aquifers, including their evaluation
  • Planning and monitoring of the provisional capturing work for long-term observation of the spring
  • Development of proposals for the appropriate capturing methods for the spring
