For the construction of two new apartment buildings on a former market garden site, the slightly contaminated soil had to be removed to a depth of around
half a meter deep had to be removed and disposed of. Since the project is located in an extensive archaeological zone, prospective soundings and profile excavations were carried out by the cantonal archaeology department prior to soil removal. In addition, the removal and disposal of the soil was subject to restrictive requirements and specifications by the cantonal archaeology department. Ecosens AG's specialist site management coordinated all matters from the explorations to the disposal.
Sampling of topsoil and subsoil and examination for possible soil contamination
Evaluation of findings and results, documentation in investigation report with disposal concept
Coordination of soil removal procedure with contractor, waste disposal company and cantonal archaeologist
Specialist site management for the soil displacement process and disposal of the contaminated topsoil and subsoil
Execution and success control, drawing up a final report and issuing the necessary soil displacement forms
Challenges
Deep soil contamination down to a depth of around 0.5 m
Staged soil removal with existing construction team due to various early partial approvals
Coordination of a procedure for soil removal that makes sense for all parties involved while complying with the overriding requirements of the cantonal archaeology department
